Who We Are at Modern College for Hairstyling and Esthetics

For over 70 years, Modern College of Hairstyling and Esthetics has been a cornerstone educational provider in Ontario. Founded as a family-owned and operated institution, our roots run deep in the beauty industry, and our culture reflects this legacy. From our earliest days under the leadership of Henry and Katherine Gauthier to today’s dynamic and innovative approach under Sarah Lippa, our Modern College Regional Coordinator, we have remained committed to excellence in education, mentorship, and community impact.

At Modern College of Hairstyling and Esthetics , we are more than just a school—we are a tight-knit, supportive family. Our instructors, many of whom are graduates themselves, foster strong relationships with students, ensuring they feel valued, supported, and empowered as they pursue their careers. Whether sharing skills in the classroom, collaborating on creative projects, or celebrating student successes, we believe in learning through connection.

Our commitment to community outreach has been unwavering throughout the years. From offering hairstyling and makeup services to local women’s shelters and Indigenous Friendship Centres to supporting cancer patients through wig care programs, we believe in giving back through our craft. Most recently, we launched a program providing free wash, cut, and blowdry vouchers to crisis centers and shelters in Sudbury, Barrie, and North Bay—continuing our tradition of using beauty to uplift and support those in need.

Beyond our classrooms, Modern College of Hairstyling and Esthetics has played a pivotal role in shaping the hairstyling and esthetics industry. We continuously update our curriculum to stay ahead of trends, ensuring that our graduates are not just learning the basics but mastering the latest techniques. We take pride in providing top-of-the-line professional kits, ensuring our students enter the workforce with salon-quality tools they can confidently use in their careers – and our in-house spa and salon clinic allows students to hone their skills five days a week (compared to one day per week, at most other colleges).

At Modern College of Hairstyling and Esthetics , we don’t just train beauty professionals—we build careers, foster lifelong connections, and contribute to thriving communities.
